The last day for leaf pick-up will be Monday, November 7th (unless it snows and the ground is covered with snow, then leaf pick-up will be over for the season). If they are unable to get to all the houses on Monday, then they will pick-up leaves at the houses they missed on Tuesday.

The last day the Fayette Yard Waste Site will be open is Wednesday, November 9th.  Then, the site will be closed for the winter and the City of Fayette will notify the citizens when it will reopen in the spring.  The City Yard Waste Disposal Site is open on Wednesdays from 2PM-4PM and on Saturdays from 8AM-10AM for disposing of branches, sticks, leaves and other yard waste.  Yard waste may also be burned, but burning of trash is prohibited.  You may also check-out the key to the Yard Waste Site at Fayette City Hall during office hours with a $5 deposit.  Residents will not be able to check out the key after Wednesday, November 9.

Here is your chance to tour a home with the Homes for Iowa project. See how the homes are built and how to own a Homes for Iowa home.

The City of Fayette will be hosting an Open House to showcase their Homes for Iowa house at 207 Alexander Street, Fayette, Iowa, on November 10, 2022, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.

The open house will include a tour of the home, conversations with Fayette city officials, Upper Explorerland Regional Planning Commission representatives and more information about how to purchase this home. No RSVP is required.

Homes for Iowa exists to address Iowa’s housing shortage, train offenders in skilled trades and reduce recidivism. Iowa struggles to build moderately priced new homes, especially in rural areas. Iowa also struggles to fill positions in the skilled trades. Iowa Prison Industries builds the homes near the Newton Correctional Facility in Newton, Iowa. Offenders are trained in the skilled building trades, including apprenticeship curriculum. The homes are then trucked to home sites.

The Fayette Homes for Iowa house made its way from Newton and was delivered to Fayette in July of 2022. With the help from local contractors, the home was completed in October 2022.

There are eligibility criteria to purchase the home which includes the purchaser’s total taxable household income must not exceed $100,000. The home shall be owned by the purchaser for five years or shall be in a payback.

A down payment assistance program is available if homeowners are below the 80% income level of $69,520 or less through the Northeast Iowa Housing Trust Fund program.  Information will be available during the open house.

After over 44 years of working for the City of Fayette, Public Works Director Jerry Hildebrand retired on October 14, 2022. Mayor Kurt Wood presented Jerry with a plaque to thank him for his dedication and service to Fayette.

The Fayette Public Works employees will begin leaf pick-up on Monday, October 24, 2022.  Pick up will be on Mondays (weather permitting). If they are unable to get to all the houses on Monday, then they will pick-up leaves at the houses they missed on Tuesday. Place raked leaves on the City parkway or right-of-way between the sidewalk and the back of the curb.  If you don’t have a curb, then place on the grassy area near the street.  Please do NOT place in the street!  No tree branches, sticks or garbage should be mixed with the leaves because they will puncture the vacuum hose.

The City Yard Waste Disposal Site is open on Wednesdays from 2PM-4PM and on Saturdays from 8AM-10AM for disposing of branches, sticks, leaves and other yard waste.  A Yard Waste key may be checked-out at Fayette City Hall during office hours.  Yard waste may also be burned but burning of trash is prohibited.  City Ordinance 135.08 prohibits the burning of leaves on any curb and gutter or on any paved or surfaced street or alley.  A fire burns not only the leaves, but also the tar/oil in asphalt and cracks can crack the concrete.

This is a courtesy notice from Fayette City Hall.  A public hearing has been scheduled for Monday, October 17th, 2022, at 6PM and will be held in the Community Room at the Fayette Community Library (104 W. The City of Fayette's Fall Clean-up Day for landfill items will be Wednesday, October 19, 2022. Fayette citizens must pay the cost that the Fayette County Transfer Station charges the city. A list of landfill fees for items needing to be picked up is listed below and will be posted at City Hall, the Post Office and the Bank.  It can also be found at https://fayettecounty.iowa.gov/departments/transfer-station/. Citizens should call 563-425-4316 or come by City Hall before Friday, October 14, to notify City Hall of any items needing to be picked up and your address.

The Public Works Department will only pick up items that the landfill will take, NOT cardboard, yard waste, liquids, toxic or hazardous waste, lead based paints, dead animals, etc.  Also, no garbage or trash that would be taken by the garbage haulers or that you can recycle.

Please don’t set out yard waste or items if you haven’t contacted City Hall.  Thank you.
